Why is my wirelss network slower than my neighbors?

stanleycoobriks asked:

My brother just gave me his old(2 years) wireless router. I set it up and the speed comes in a 11 mbps, when I connect to my neighbors wirelss network the speed reads at 56 mbps. The internet speed of my neighbors is a lot faster, faster downloads, faster page loads, etc.

Is this a function of the router I’m using, my intenret connection, or some setting?

What are the router transmission speeds. Probably the router that you have transfers only 54MBPS or less. That is the reason you get 11mbps on your router.

Your neighbours router may be transmitting at 108 MBPS, which gives much faster connectivity.

You also mentioned its old. Try to find driver and firmware updates for your router.
