what kind or radar detector is the best for the least money?

Johnny21usaf asked:

I keep getting speeding tickets. I need a radar detector that is reasonably priced and that works the best. I live in california so i also need one that is up to date with the radar guns of the local police. Also, do all radar detectors make the radar gun unable to read my speed? or does it just detect radar? Cause i need one that does both cause it might be too late when it is detected…

The best radar detector is the speedometer. If you get tickets for breaking the law you got what you deserve. Sorry if this offends you but no one is better than the law and you should just leave earlier and obey the speed limits.

Why spend the money? Hell, slow down just a bit. Besides, there isn’t one made that is guaranteed for no tickets. If you do get stopped and the law sees it on your dash or elsewhere, you have zero chance of talking your way out of it.

I know I can answer this one for you. I’m a cop in a large southern city. I can’t count the number of times I’ve stopped somebody who had a high dollar radar detector turned on. A cop’s radar gun is not always on. You pull a trigger and point it at a car you think is speeding. Also, most dept.s have gone to Laser. They make Laser detectors but your throwing away your money. Save the money for something else. If you don’t trust me do a web search.

I recommend the Passport radar detectors by Escort. I’ve had one for approximately 10 years now and it has saved my rear on several occasions, and despite its high price, has easily paid for itself in saved tickets (how much did your tickets cost?). As for the policeman’s comments about radar not being kept on and lasers being used, no doubt he is correct, but he is missing a key point … a good radar detector will alert you of any nearby activity, even if it is pulse activity involving someone else’s car. You may only get a couple minutes of warning, but that is sufficient to slow down and avoid the ticket. There may be cheaper units out there that work — I truly don’t know — but I know the Passport works. Check them out here:
