What does a sign that says “End Speed Zone” mean?

Hello asked:


While driving through a rural part of Indiana I passed by a sign that read “End Speed Zone”. I normally don’t drive through rural streets and have never seen such a sign.

Previous to the sign, the speed limit was 60MPH. And there was not a posted speed limit sign for ~15 miles until the next town. I know that normally when you pass a sign that says “End 45 MPH Speed Zone” it means that the previous speed limit (IE, 65) returns, such as after leaving a construction zone.

I am interested in what a sign that just says “End Speed Zone” means.
I should say, there was no previous lower speed limit such as a school zone or anything. The only previous one was 60 which was the case for the previous 10-15 miles.

this means that the speed zone has ended and you can go to your previous speed

It means that you can return to the speed limit, they usually slow you down around towns and schools, but once you’re clear of them, you can go back to 60, or whatever it is.

It means that the previous Speed Limit sign that you last saw is no longer in effect and that you can return to 65 MPH – or whatever it was before the restricted speed zone.

Sometimes in construction zones, even when the speeds may not be reduced, the fines for speeding may be doubled. The “End Speed Zone” sign indicates a return to normal roadway conditions and standard fines are again in place.
