Should I select the option on my C: drive to Compress disk to save space?

chris.winne asked:

Rather, will this cause any problems as far as running programs, read/write speed, or anything of that nature? Pros and Cons anyone?

You will **** life if you manage to compress your c: drive. That drive contains Windows and the performance of compressed drives are pathetic. The last thing you want to do is to slow Windows down anymore than it already is.

i’ve done it,

it doesn’t save much drive space at all, that i’ve noticed,

and it makes file operations, such as copying and pasting take longer

It will slow your drive down considerably.
I think you should just go out and get a second drive, they are only like 20-30 cents per GB now, you can get a 250GB hard drive for less than $60.

It’s not a good idea to compress your C drive. It compresses and makes like 1 big file. You can always get an external hard drive to store some of your files/music/photos too.
