What is a good book for a High Schooler that falls under these categories?

coryw68122 asked:

I need to pick a book to read for my AP World History class. It has to be under one of these topics:
-Religious
-Greek Mythology
-Evolution

and other general history.

I want a book that really interesting. I just read collapse, by jared diamond, and could not stand another page of it. I am looking more into the evolution topic, because that seems to be the most interesting. I don’t have alot of spare time, so short is good (hopefully not longer than 300 pages, but at least 100)

Anyways, please recommend any good books on evolution, greek mythology, or religion. I have already read the odyssey and illiad by the way.

good book

I’d recommend something by Joseph Campbell like Hero with a Thousand Faces or his Occidental mythology.

Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart falls under your Religious and Evolution categories. Its got 209 pages and is fairly easy to read.

Black Boy by Richard Wright can ascribe to both categories for my previous suggestion, I think. It has 400 something pages. I was only instructed to read the first half, though… about the first part of his life. I was interested in it.

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown has a good deal of Religious in it, I think. (Or maybe it was The Da Vinci Code… hmm. :/)
Though it harbors 400+ pages.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt makes references to Greek HISTORY all the time. Though I’m not sure if it points to the mythology section… I didn’t finish it because it bored me. But, seeing as I haven’t read Collapse, I can’t compare and tell if you’d like this one. Its listed in Amazon as having more than 500 pages.
