good book

Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart falls under your Religious and Evolution categories. Its got 209 pages and is fairly easy to read.

Black Boy by Richard Wright can ascribe to both categories for my previous suggestion, I think. It has 400 something pages. I was only instructed to read the first half, though... about the first part of his life. I was interested in it.

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown has a good deal of Religious in it, I think. (Or maybe it was The Da Vinci Code... hmm. :/)
Though it harbors 400+ pages.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt makes references to Greek HISTORY all the time. Though I'm not sure if it points to the mythology section... I didn't finish it because it bored me. But, seeing as I haven't read Collapse, I can't compare and tell if you'd like this one. Its listed in Amazon as having more than 500 pages.

I'd recommend something by Joseph Campbell like Hero with a Thousand Faces or his Occidental mythology.
