What shutter speed do I use? (new to Photography)?
sdlove9090 asked:
I am using a Canon AE-1 and I am assuming the lens is 52mm? The f-stop is reading is 5.6 but I don’t know what shutter speed to use. 1/125? 1/60?
Oh and I am using film that says Tri-X 400 Film- Black and White.
It is raining outside and it is light overcast.
I am new to photography
. THANKS for helping!

Totally depends on the amount of light you have, anything from 1/1000th of a second in bright daylight to 1/2 an hour in the middle of a field on a moonless night (allowing for reciprocity failure).
Assuming a good battery the Canon AE1 unusually had shutter priority (most SLR’s had aperture priority which is far more useful) as its auto metering system, so you set the shutter speed and the camera will select the appropriate aperture within the range available on the lens you have fitted.
