Are psychics real? How do they know?

faded_for_now asked:

This past year I had my palm read and the person told me a lot of things about my life that were right. Ever since then I have been uncertain on what to believe. Can anyone help me out?

Look up ‘cold reading’ techniques. They throw something out there – something to do with parents, jobs, death, water, etc – that anyone could find a link to and run with it when you respond. There aren’t any real psychics – how come you never see the headline, ‘psychic wins lottery’? Why has no one EVER been able to prove psychic ability – there’s a million bucks in it for you if you can?

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense.
