Here is what I am thinking. You can do whatever you set your mind to doing. I am 26, I don't have a learning disability however I do have 5 kids and I just graduated college with a degree in Medical Assisting. I have aspirations of being a RN soon. So why not try something like that. Go to a technical college where it is a smaller instructor to student ratio and get into medical assisting first and when you learn some basic stuff and terminology and know for sure it is what you want to do. Medical Assistants do all the same thing as a nurse with the exception of giving meds and we get paid less. I think that you should really try this... I bet you are smarter than you give yourself credit for you just need to have more confidence. I wish you well and hope that you do what ever you so desire... it is your right to try!!!

You are the only one that can answer that. Do you have the constitution to stick with it until you do understand it? If not, don't do it because most of us don't want a half assed nurse taking care of us if we are very sick.

If you think you have what it takes to do it, stick with it, and have the desire to be the best, try finding some courses to help you learn how to study and comprehend better. It will be the best money you ever spend (even if you don't go to college). Regardless of what you do, you will be judged according to how well you understand and implement your duties.

I have walked in your shoes and wish someone had told me this 25 years ago.

Why the heck not?
you will have to work a lot harder than the others but if that is your dream then GO FOR IT!

There are other ways to access the information besides reading it too. You could have someone read it to you or make tapes of you reading the material and play it over and over again when you are falling asleep to help retain it.

You could also write the info over and over again. The repetitian helps me remember stuff when i think it's too complicated. And a lot of times, because i memorized it even though i did not understand it, it would click into place eventually and i'd get it.

A lot of nursing is book learning but there is a lot more to be learned by actually doing it on the job.

Good luck and God bless. The world needs more nurses!!
