I want to work at Borders book store?

Seth asked:

I would love to work at my local Borers book store. I’m there practically every night. I just love the atmosphere and I’m really passionate about books. The thing is I keep filling out applications for employment on their website, but never receive an interview. Should I cold call the manager?

Sure, it couldn’t hurt. They may not actually be hiring. Businesses usually allow people to fill out applications even when they don’t have any positions available. Frustrating, I know.

Isaac E Says:

then apply for it

I would go to the store and talk to the manager and ask who does hiring and express your interest. It always helps to do things in person rather than on the website.

I would just go into the store and ask for an application. Also ask if they are hiring. I should warn you it pays REALLY low. I worked there a couple years ago and it wasn’t worth it. Sometimes they have good employee discounts though where you get super big discounts. And there is a room where you get free music CDs that were demos and books. That was the best part.

yeah, or go to the store and ask them if there is a printed application you could fill out at the store, so you know that they have the application

yakimablueyes Says:

No….In person is best. They would probably recognize you from you regular patronage. Fill out a written application ahead of time…find out the hiring managers schedule, go at a slow period of time and ask if he/she’s doing any hiring/interviews. Let them know that it’s your favorite store and you feel very at home there. You are there 24/7 you might as well get paid for it anyway! Good luck!

Go talk to the manager in person….it’s the only way you will get hired…
